We should be more concerned about Global Warming and Climate Change because Typhoons are getting much stronger and there are greater incidence of Flooding. take for example the recent Typhoon Ketsana which devastated some countries in South East Asia.

I believe your insight into these passages is accurate, however I will add to this an observation and a question; 1st the observation: I believe Jesus' teachings were full of truth on many levels, therefore, I believe his analogy of the mountain indeed pertained to forgiveness, but not only forgiveness. To obtain mercy and forgiveness, the law says that we must give up something in return. Pride along with our own unforgiveness of others is the sacrifice we must make to receive this gift. The same law applies to anything else we ask for. If we ask for material possesions, we will receive them to the extent that we believe and are truthfully willing to divest ourselves of the same. If we seek them for selfish reasons, unwilling make the required sacrifice, then we ask amiss as confirmed by James. I believe this promise and this principle applies to anything and everything and to anyone and everyone, and further bears witness in all physical, biological and spiritual law.

Now for the question: if in fact we are not forgiven, if we hold onto our own unforgiveness of others (which I believe) then how do we reconcile this unforgiven sin with the doctrine of "once saved, always saved", for who amongst us has at some time not harbored unforgiveness in his heart?

If you removed the height and ratio, the scaling still works! Tested in IE6,IE7,FF3,Safari3, it seems browsers automagically calculates height for you if height is not defined!

Well, this article is very old but I'm going to comment anyways! I am a single Christian mom and I do believe in this article. I think it is absolutely 100% wrong for society to have gone in the direction of not disciplining our kids. Lets talk about comparing.... Please. Way back 100 years ago, when spanking was MUCH more prevalent, what were the crime rates? MUCH LOWER - that's what! Our society has gone to pot in a lot of ways - the more time that goes by the worse a lot of things get like crime rates. And one of the contributing factors is the LACK of discipline. For the past 20 years and currently - parents are AFRAID to spank or discipline their child how they should. Personally I have been ACCUSED of abusing my child in any way possible which is ridiculous. Eventually I was able to work through all of the red tape and energy zapping work of getting "proof" that I do my job as a parent (and in a lot of cases, better than TWO parents) - ..but, Social Services and all of the Spanking activists are just plain WRONG for making it sound like parents that are doing RIGHT are abusing their children! What??? I'm a Christian and I believe in what God tells me in the Bible - as stated also in the article, "Spare the rod...spoil the child" - does apply in this day and age. Even more than ever. 20 years ago, ...how many cases of ADHD were there?...c'mon. I truly believe that because society is FORCING the parents to NOT be parents - this society is going down the drain! Spanking is NOT the same as BEATING or WHIPPING...it is simply spanking. And, it goes a long way in raising a child up RIGHT. It teaches more than just that immediate issue. It teaches respect for authority, to be humble and to be careful and take caution through life to do the right thing.

God or no God spanking has been outlawed in a number of states or provinces and countries. It provides for a very clear delineation of is child abuse. If you a hand on your child in a way that would be considered assault for any other human being on the earth it is abuse.

Spanking is not necessary. It is a sign of a parent who has either run out of ideas and option for how to deal with a child or a parent who is loosing control. The outlawing of spanking will, first, do no harm to anyone and, second, prevent great harm to a number of otherwise defenseless children.

I think if you compare rates of violence, criminality, and imprisonment with countries which have outlawed spanking with areas of the United States that have not, you will find that spanking serves no end to raising God fearing and law abiding citizens and actually suggests it doesn't work at all.

Why should we start with our children to teach that the overpowering of another who is weaker is acceptable behavior? Such a lesson is certainly not consistent with the teachings of either Christ or the Apostle Paul. If you going religious argument out of this, then Christians should be setting an example of the peace of Christ, not the sword of Rome.

I live in Eastern Massachusetts.
The Red Oaks in My yard have hard mast every two years. This year they didn't.The second year.I thought it might be because of the European Winter Moth which has reached us for the past 4 years and going south. But maybe not.
