ESPN-U is holding a vote for the “Greatest College Football Coach of All Time” and, as you might expect, Dr. Tom is on the list of candidates. As of my vote a minute ago, Coach Osborne has 53% of the vote, with Bear Bryant in second with 33%. It’s worth noting that Barry Switzer has 2% of the vote at this time.
Head on over and cast your vote for Tom Osborne, the Greatest College Football Coach of All Time. Voting Ends 12/01/07.
Oh, it’s also worth noting that Bill Callahan’s name isn’t on the list either…

I went ahead and voted for Tom, but I think my real vote would go for Bob Devaney, who turned the Huskers around in the sixties.
I remember the long, long dry spell from 1974 until the 90s under Tom Osborne. As a kid, my mom would say she hated Thanksgiving, because NU losing to OU would always ruin the day. It was a long dry spell under Osborne (and, yes, I’m not forgetting 1983).
That being said, the most satisfying football game I’ve ever seen is the NU-UF game at the Fiesta Bowl. Seeing Spurrier on the sideline looking as though he was sucking on lemons was worth a lot.
